The Federal University Oye-Ekiti football team popularly known as FUOYE Dazzlers defeated the Ekiti State University football team known as the EKSU Galacticos in a friendly match. The match ended with a two to zero scoreline.

The friendly match came up on Friday, the 13th of March at FUOYE sports complex. The match was preseasoned and played in preparation for the Higher Institutions Football League (HIFL) which comes up annually.

The Higher Institution Football League is a football competition that engages all higher institution football teams in the country and these football teams compete on a yearly basis. In line with this, interested teams sometimes come together to show their eagerness for the competition.

The match kicked off and ended between the hours of 9am and 11am. Barnabas Blessing, FUOYE Dazzlers’ goalkeeper excitedly expressed his gladness as regards the performance of his team members.

He said “at first they felt they were not going to get themselves together or the match was not going to end in their favour but as time went by, they picked up themselves and when they scored the first goal, the morale of their opponent went down and then the second goal.”

“I tried my best to save my team. One or two saves to help us have a record against the team as they have defeated us about three times before and since the match was in our home, we had to do something and I am happy the match ended in our favour,” he concluded.

Speaking to UCJ FUOYE, Mr. Ojo Blessing Ayodeji, the coach for FUOYE football team expressed his heart-felt gratitude towards the outcome of the match.

He said “the match was a process of test for the team and also for some screened players just to see their potentials”. To him the match was “not just about the winning but about the talents and potential in them because we are on talent hunting and we are trying to see who and who can give a very good representation of the school team and also the school at large”.

“The players have really tried today and have given us the first victory of the year. This is our first friendly match and we played against EKSU Galaticos as you can see we won the game with 2:0. They played very well. They tried their best and I pray that we have such victory in competitions to come,” he concluded.

Efforts to get in touch with the captain of the Galacticos proved abortive as the team left immediately after the match.
