Gbolahan Taiwo, a 100-level stream A student studying Quantity Survey at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has lost his life this afternoon, after he was involved in an accident. The deceased, who doubles as the Faculty Governor of Environmental Design at Ikole Campus, was said to be involved in a motorcycle accident on his way to submit an assignment (MTH 101) given to himself and his coursemates’ by an Oye-campus-based lecturer.
According to an eyewitness who pleaded to be anonymous, Mr Taiwo boarded a motorcycle from a fuel station at Ikole which was to convey him to the car park.
“There were two passengers on the motorcycle. Gbolahan sat at the back. He was trying to adjust his cross bag when a big truck wanted to hit the motorcycle. The motorcycle driver tried to overtake the truck but he couldn’t,” he explained.
Taiwo broke his leg in the process and was rushed to a hospital at Ikole but was later transferred to Ido Teaching Hospital. At noon, he was declared dead.
Reacting to the incident, the Students’ Union Public Relations Officer, Quayyim Abolore, told UCJ FUOYE that the SUG executives and the school management have scheduled an emergency meeting with the 100-level students’ leadership of Ikole campus and other students’ stakeholders. The meeting is to be held on Saturday, December 17th, 2022.
“We want to reiterate our commitment to the better welfare of our members and we shall continue to pursue their Interests,” he said.
