Future News Worldwide is a competitive conference that trains and connects 100 young journalists across the world. It is organized by the British Council in partnership with world’s leading media organizations such as the BBC, Google and Reuters.

In 2019, Daniel Whyte, the former President and Editor of UCJ FUOYE got selected and traveled to the UK for the conference. Also, in 2020, Olutaiwo Ayobami, a former executive of UCJ FUOYE was also selected. However, due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, the conference was made a virtual one.

In a bid to train and connect the next generation of global journalists, the conference was put in place to bring together 100 young journalists worldwide, each July.

This year’s conference, which has only 50 delegates selected across the world, is tagged “Building the skills, support and resilience needed for journalism to meet the challenges of a changed world”. It is scheduled to hold for three days starting from Tuesday, July 12 to Thursday, July 14, 2022.

Expressing her happiness in an interview, Precious Ewuji, a 2nd year Education and English Language student of FUOYE said she made it on her first try.

“I feel so elated and I look forward to connecting with other fellows around the world and expanding my network circle,” she added.

Likewise, Sunday Awosoro, a third year student of Education and English Language expressed his gratitude and excitement.

“It took me two years of eyeing this from a far distance. Getting selected at my first attempt is what I am grateful for. I feel so good! I am excited,” he told UCJ FUOYE in an interview.

He also looks forward to advancing his “career through the networking opportunities that come with this conference”.

Reacting to the news, Helena Idiovo, the president of UCJ FUOYE said she was shocked at the sight of the news.

“I know this conference is not something easy to get in and I’m grateful they got in. The stride UCJ FUOYE members are taking is very impressive and I’m proud of our members.”

Idiovo added that the conference is going to be an opportunity to enhance the networking of the selected participants, and she looks forward to seeing the impact they will make.
