Faculty of Education Elects New Executive Members

Ahead of the 2021/2022 academic session, the Education Students Association of Nigeria (ESAN) FUOYE Chapter held its elections on 16th  November, 2022. The election took place at the former faculty of Education with two different polling units.

Before the commencement of the election, agitations started among the voters as regards the non-adherence of the doctoral committee to the slated time for the election. The election, which was slated for 9 a.m., commenced at exactly 10:15 a.m. with the accreditation of voters. 

A few minutes after the election commenced properly, a misunderstanding ensued between the agents and the electoral committee on the issue of writing the offices on each ballot container. As a result of the misunderstanding between the electoral officer, agents, and the voter, one of the lecturers, Dr. Nwogu, arrived at the polling unit one to intervene. Nwogu also ordered the re-arrangement of the electoral committee to ensure easier access to vote.

In the bid to meet up with Dr thee slated time for the end of the voting process, the electoral bodies decided to end the election. This didn’t go well with some of the observing agents and it caused an uproar from two aspirant agents; the welfare aspirant’s agent and the Financial Secretary’s agent. To maintain order, the two agents were asked to step out in the meantime by the electoral chairman for their act of misconduct.

“You should be transparent enough. When you started the election at a time, you should add the extra time delayed to the time” said one of the agents. He also proposed that the voting period be extended to which everyone gave their consent. 

The electoral committee extended the time and the election ended at exactly 3 p.m. after which the collation began. After the collation, the total number of voters was summed up to 670. The counting of votes commenced immediately after the collation.

The counting of votes ended 5:56 pm. At the end of it all, Oluranti Olaleye Gbenga was declared the winner of the presidential office with 488 votes to that of his opponent Ojo Praise who had 173 votes. For the office of social director, Ajayi Favour won the seat with a landslide victory of 503 votes over her counterpart; Ayegbusi Victor who had 136 votes. The other elected unopposed offices were Olagoke Olalekan as Vice President, Osikoya Gbemisola as Gen Secretary, Falade Blessing as Financial Secretary, Adeleye Feranmi as Treasurer, Ige Temitope as Director of Sports.

Others are Badmus Tunde- Director of Business, Okogbe Rachel as Welfare Director, Office of Public Relations Officer 1 Omodara Kehinde won the seat of Public Relations officer 1 while Ayebiwo Sunday was elected as the PRO 2. Famule Elizabeth was elected as Assistant General Secretary while Adebisi Samuel was elected as the Librarian.

In an interview with Dr. Adeolu Adekoya, the staff adviser, he asserted that he was not pleased with the students. 

“We have over 5000 students in the faculty but this will be taken care of in forthcoming elections. We thank God that the election was a peaceful one”. He  advised the newly elected leaders and students to work together for the growth of the faculty.

The election came to a close with appreciation from the electoral chairman to every single electoral committee, observers and the students as a whole.
