Following the 3 weeks break for the Nigerian General elections which is to end on March 15th, 2023, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, has approved a compulsory payment of N8,000 from each of the hostel residents which would serve as an entry permit before access to the school hostels on Oye and Ikole campuses respectively.
This was made known in a memo released on Tuesday 7th, March and signed by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dosu Malomo.
“There were instances when students removed part of the hostel electricity cables to make lines to dry clothes cloths while provisions were made for cloth lines.
Also, there were situations when some students at different times defecate in trousers jean and deep the whole trousers inside the water closet to be flushed, which eventually blocked the system and plumbers had to remove almost all the sewage pipes before the reason for the blockage can be identified,” the memo reads.
Consequently, the University Management introduced the payment of N10,000 hostel maintenance fee which the Vice-Chancellor graciously reduced to N8,000 for all student residents in the school hostel. The students are to pay the fee before resuming back into the hostels from the election break.
The memo emphasized that non-compliance by any student would attract embarrassment and severe actions, and a security committee would be set up to ensure strict compliance.
