Amid the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, the management of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) has ordered students from the Faculty of Education who do not have valid school identity cards, to visit the Students’ Affairs Division of the school on Monday, 10th of October, 2022.
This was shared in a recent memorandum released by the students’ union.
Recall that the federal government, during the 2021 commemoration of the World Teachers’ Day in Abuja, promised that the students undergoing degree programmes in Education at public universities will get a N75,000 stipend per semester, while their counterparts undergoing the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) will get N50,000 per semester.
Restating President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to reform the education sector across the country, the federal government through the permanent secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, Andrew David Adejo, in a press statement issued on Monday, 3rd October, 2022 said application forms are now available online at www.education.gov.ng while the deadline for submission of application is October 21, 2022.
The statement revealed that the eligibility criteria for the Bursary award include full-time students applicants studying Education in Nigerian Colleges of Education and Universities.
The aforestated students were, thereby, urged to complete the application form online, submit and print a copy, and attach photocopies of the letter of admission and current school’s identity card.
The statement partly reads, “eligible candidates are advised to make only one entry as multiple entries will disqualify the applicants.
“All applicants (physically challenged inclusive) must be in their first year or above.
“A beneficiary of any scholarship is not eligible.”
In response, the management of FUOYE in a statement made available to UCJ FUOYE on Wednesday, 5th October 2022, directed students to get their identity cards immediately from the student affairs division.
The management’s statement notifies that students with no valid Student ID CARD should visit the Student Affairs Division in Oye Campus to enroll for the ID CARD on Monday,10th of October 2022.
“Kindly note that you are to go along with a white background passport as the Student ID CARD is among the prerequisites to access the Federal Government bursary.”
