National Association of Criminology and Security Studies, Federal University Oye-Ekiti chapter has held its departmental election on Friday, 16th of July, 2021, at the Social Sciences Main Auditorium, Phase 3.
The election, which is meant to elect new executives to pilot the affairs of the association, commenced at exactly 10:00AM with the aspirants being the first to cast their votes.
Ganiyu Ridwan and Nze Churchill both contended for the presidential position, Bello and Michael contended for the post of Social Director, but the posts of Vice President, General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Welfare Director, Librarian, and Public Relations Officer were without oppositions.
Although the electoral officers ran out of ballot papers which momentarily deprived some students from casting their votes, ballot papers were later brought and checked by the school security officers before usage.
The election ended at noon and the counting started immediately.
During the counting of the votes, the aspirants’ agents were allowed to enter the polling unit.
The total number of valid votes was 312 while 3 were declared void.
Ganiyu Ridwan, one of the presidential candidates had 195 votes, winning his opponent, Nze Churchill, with 110 votes.
For the Social Director candidates, Bello emerged victorious with 162 votes while Michael got 134 votes.
The Vice President candidate, Olaniran Festus was without opposition. General Secretary candidate, Ige Esther; Assistant General Secretary Maliki Paul; Financial Secretary, Akinola Phebe, and the Treasurer candidate, Adeyekun Kazeem, were with no opponents thereby emerging in their respective positions.
The school staff who were present at the election ground included Dr. Owoseni, lecturer in the Department of Criminology; Mr. Ojiezele Monday, and Dr. Ken Egbo, level adviser for 400 level Criminology students among others.
At the end of the election, the aspirants’ agents were given the department constitution for the aspirants to be apprised of their roles and regulations of the department.
