The Nigerian University Engineering Students’ Association (NUESA) Representative Council, Federal University Oye-Ekiti chapter, has elected a new set of leaders to direct the affairs of the association.
The election which took place on Sunday, 12th of September, 2021 was held among the electoral committee.
The voting process which was done online and had 21 accredited voters was confirmed through a memo signed by the electoral committee chairman, Odunuga Samuel, and the electoral committee secretary, Ogundigba Hamzat.
For the position of the speaker, Utsu Stephen Dennis emerged with 21 votes while Adekusibe David emerged the deputy speaker with 9 votes.
Others include Ogunleye James Temitope as Clerk, Obadina Tolulope for Assistant Clerk, Rotimi Samuel for Chief Whip, Olowolayemo Emmanuel for Mace Bearer, and Uzoma Desmond for House Leader.
Also, Omopariola Joshua, Fatade o, Moshod, Aduloju Samuel, Adeyemi Oluwakayode, Osasona Ayomide, Akinola David, Lawal Jonathan, Adeleye Stephen, Oyebanji Azeez, Raphael Dominic, Ajayi Oladapo, and Lawal Zainab were elected as members of the house.
Speaking with the electoral committee Chairman, Odunuga Samuel said the election was free and fair.
“The election was done through e-voting but we made it public in other to let the entire Engineering students populace aware that an election was conducted,” he stated.
He added that the e-voting was first of its kind for the NRC members of NUESA body which aids the smooth progress of assemblage of the council and dissemination of information.
“It’s great because there wasn’t excuse of not being around or busy by anyone, the election created an avenue for even members who had not yet resume back to school but are members of the house to also participate and exercise their rights. It was a great development by everyone,” he said.
The released memo from the electoral committee ended with appreciation to all registered voters. The commission went on to remind the populace that the commission remains the only legal mandated body.
