The President of the Faculty of Education, Olaleye Gbenga, has approved and launched the rehabilitation of the dilapidated Old Faculty of Education mini-bridge.
This was stated in a memo released on March 23rd by the Jolayemi, Joseph Oluwasegun, the Chief of Staff to the president of the Faculty of Education.
The Mini-bridge leads to Phase I of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (Oye Campus) and the majority of students take the route to access their various lecture rooms.
“We will repair it and ensure that it serves the primary purpose for which it was constructed,
“We are committed to serving our members and extending a hand of support to our colleagues outside the Faculty of Education,” the memo stated.
The memo was concluded with a call on the Student Union Government, under the esteemed leadership of Comr. Ajayi Dotun to lend its full support to the rehabilitation of the Mini-bridge.
Speaking with UCJ FUOYE, Abidoye Oyinlola, a 300 Level student of the department of English and Literary Studies in the Faculty of Arts, who uses the mini-bridge often shares her experience.
“I’ve been using this road since 2020 and it’s the shortest route to my lecture room. But now the bridge is in shambles! It’s been dilapidated for a while now, and the rain has only made things worse. The bridge is breaking apart, and it’s becoming impossible to cross. So, I’d been forced to use the main gate, which is a total inconvenience.
“Honestly, I just hope this proposed rehabilitation is executed in earnest to enable easy passage,” Abidoye lamented.
Also, Ayeni Boluwatife, a student from the Faculty of Education expressed her feelings about how terrible the bridge has been.
She said: “I fell into the slum this morning, which caused my dress to be messed up while using the bridge; I felt so embarrassed, but with the news of the rehabilitation of the mini-bridge, I look forward to seeing it fixed.”
