SERVICE COMPACT, the body responsible for quality and effective service delivery in Federal University Oye Ekiti, has revealed the plan of the body to orientate students of the university about SERVICOM.
The Head of the SERVICOM unit, Mr. Toyin Borisade, spoke to UCJ FUOYE on Monday, 21st of June, 2021 at his office in the administrative building.
SERVICOM is a machinery of the Nigerian government for ensuring the delivery of effective public service delivery in Nigeria by all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government.
“Concerning our activities on campus, it is not all students who can say they don’t know about our existence, I will probably say that the freshers who just got admitted will be the ones not to know of our existence.
“Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, SERVICOM could not feature prominently on their matriculation ceremony. They were supposed to have their orientation, then matriculation, if it had happened to the normal way there’s no way they wouldn’t have heard of SERVICOM,” he started.
Mr. Borisade, therefore, promised to enlighten students of the body’s services and feel their impact on campus.
He also went further to speak on how they have started addressing the indecent dressing of some students on campus.
“We are going to start massive orientation of students concerning the existence of SERVICOM. I am promising you that very soon students will start knowing us and feel our impact on campus. We are already addressing the indecent dressing of students, and very soon we will start correcting this attitude,” he said.
He went further to speak about the challenges the body grapple with and how the current Vice-Chancellor has been of great help.
“Just like every other unit, there have been challenges, but with the leadership style of an amicable Vice-Chancellor, we thank God that we now have a friendly staff. The VC is now attending to most of our challenges.
“In the past, we use to have a scarcity of funds, which is our main challenge, but we’re now getting relieved, and very soon you’ll start seeing things happen from this unit.”
“In few weeks we will mount billboards everywhere, which is one way to sensitize students of the consequences of taking illicit drugs, cultism, and why they shouldn’t dress indecently.
“One-on-one sensitization, going into lecture halls to address the students on SERVICOM. We will also address the issue of security, why students shouldn’t keep late at night,” he concluded.
The objectives of the body include, ensuring quality service to the students and stakeholders of FUOYE, sensitizing students, stakeholders, and staff in their right to challenge service failure, and also sensitizing members of staff to be alert to their responsibilities in providing efficient timely, and transparent service.
With its objectives and services it renders, some students are not aware of the body’s existence in the university.
While speaking with UCJ FUOYE, Oshawole Bukola Omowumi, a 200 level student of English and Literary Studies said, “SERVICOM sounds familiar but I have never heard of it in FUOYE.”
Obafemi Faith Oluwabunmi, a 200 level student of Business Education stated, “in and out of FUOYE I have never heard of SERVICOM ever before.”
Also, a 300 level student of Mass Communication, Awosedo Moses Taiwo, said, “this is my first time hearing of SERVICOM ever since my 100 level days.”
