SRC Suspends Senate President Amidst Preparation for SUG Election

By Sunday Awosoro.

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti Students’ Union (FUOYESUC) has suspended the office of its senate president till further notice.

This is happening amidst rumors about the lifting of electoral campaigns.

In a letter dated 10th of November, 2022 and signed by the Senate Clark, Olanrewaju Seun, the decision was reached after the Senate President forcefully interrupted the FUOYESUC emergency meeting where he also “attempted to hijack the mace and disrupt the legislative proceedings”.

“This action is prohibited as lives of senators in the sitting were in danger before it was managed by the securities of the school,” the letter partly reads.

Confirming the incident, the Senate Chief Press Secretary, Muhammed Adegboye who was present at the meeting, said that the emergency meeting was called to make further decisions concerning the electoral committee which was being formed, and how to lift the campaign ban.

“Coming in to destabilize the senate sitting is an offence. The lives of all senators present at the meeting were in danger. The forceful interruption of the proceeding led to the suspension,” he told UCJ FUOYE in a telephone interview.

Reacting to the situation in a WhatsApp chat with this reporter, the suspended Senate President, Onitilo Eniola disapproved of the SRC’s decision.

Bluntly but clearly he said: “It’s barbaric and totally unconstitutional. I remain the Senate President of FuoyeSUG.”
