On the 18th of November, 2022, the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ) and Impact Leaders’ Club (ILC) of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) hosted a manifesto reading and debate, for the aspirants of the Students’ Union Government.
The event started at exactly 12pm with an opening prayer from Ginikachukwu Moses, a fellow of the Millenium Campus Fellowship. Afterward, the national and school anthem was recited.
Olofin Abiola from the ILC anchored the manifesto reading while Oluwaseyi Adesuyan, a 300-level student from the department of English and Literary Studies hosted the event.
The aspirants for the post of Sports Director are Adamolekun Toheeb, Akinfemiwa Adekunle, and Iskeel Abdulafeez. The aspirant for the post of the Welfare Director is Abdul Afeeez Aminat who is unopposed. For the post of the Financial Secretary, the aspirants are Olajide British and Banigbe Oyinlola.
Osemele Chuks and Ayilara Opeyemi are the aspirants for the post of the Treasurer while Oyebiyi Ridwan and Usman Sodiq are the aspirants for the General Secretary position. For the post of the Public Relations Officer, the aspirants are Akuraku Kofoworola and Akadiri Segun Alaba.
The aspirants for the position of the Social Director are Adeniyi Emmanuel and Umoru David while Aregbe Oluwatosin and Akano Ibrahim are contesting for the position of the Assistant General Secretary.
Jimoh Adesope, Odanye Steven, Aderanti Oluwadamilola, Apara Emmanuel, and Osulola Joshua are contesting for the position of the Vice President while Oluwaseyi Babalola and Ajayi Dotun are aspiring for the post of the President.
A time span of 5 minutes each was allotted to the aspirants aside from the Presidential and Vice President aspirants. While 7 minutes each was allotted to the Presidential and Vice Presidential aspirants.
After tendering their manifestos, each aspirant excluding the presidential aspirants was quizzed on how effectively they can tackle the problems students are facing on and off campus. This session was anchored by Sunday Awosoro and Muktar Balogun from UCJ FUOYE. All aspirants presented their different plan on how they will proffer lasting and sustainable solutions to issues students are facing ranging from poor means of transportation, bad network, and insecurity among others.
However, when the two aspirants for the presidential post came on stage, they were both asked questions about what they had in store to make students on both campuses experience a better learning atmosphere. Emmanuel Dotun Ajayi in his words promised to make studentship a better experience. “If I am elected as the president of the Students Union Government, I promise to ensure a close relationship with the students on both campuses to find out the issues they are encountering as a student,” he said.
On the other hand, Oluwaseyi Babalola, the second presidential aspirant in his words promised the initiation of continuity and sustainability by ensuring the tackled problems during his tenure do not resurrect after he vacated office. “ I have a way of proffering lasting solutions to students’ problems on and off campus and it is called the project of continuity and sustainability,” he said
Finally, to round off the event, the two presidential aspirants Mr Babalola and Mr Ajayi were both asked to tell those in attendance what they would love to be remembered with if either of them was elected president.
Emmanuel Dotun Ajayi responded by saying that he would love to be remembered as “the person who came in to solve and proffer solutions to problems alongside maintaining integrity” while Babalola responded by saying, “I would like to be remembered for keeping the words of my manifesto with innovative leadership.”
The event ended at exactly 4 p.m.
